Withdrawals spark speculation
Alfred was initially scheduled to line up at the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Poland on Saturday and at Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland on August 20. Both meets boast world-class sprint fields, including world-leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. Alfred’s name, however, was missing from the Silesia start list when it was published earlier this week.
Fueling speculation, Lausanne organizers released a statement citing injury: “Originally announced, Julien Alfred will not compete in the three Diamond League meetings in August due to injury.”
Eyes on Tokyo, not the treatment table
Alfred swiftly countered those claims, clarifying that her decision is strategic, not medical. While confirming she will not compete in either Silesia or Lausanne, she emphasized that her focus is firmly fixed on next month’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
By prioritizing preparation over competition, Alfred aims to arrive at the global showpiece in peak condition, ready to defend her Olympic crown and chase further glory on the world stage.
