JFF faces further hurdles as Beach Soccer Jamaica takes election dispute to Court of Appeal
The ongoing saga surrounding the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) election has taken another turn, as Patricia Garel, President of Beach Soccer Jamaica, has filed a notice of appeal, further delaying the electoral process.
This development comes after a recent Supreme Court ruling rejected an application for the continuation of a temporary injunction that had initially prevented the elections from proceeding on January 14. The court ruled that Garel and Beach Soccer Jamaica had not established themselves as affiliates or members of the JFF, leading to a denial of their application.
However, rather than proceeding with the Elective Congress as initially planned, the parties are now headed back to court as Garel appeals against the recent ruling. Despite this setback, the JFF remains optimistic about securing a favorable decision on the appeal and is working to set a new date for the Elective Congress to prevent disenfranchisement of its members.
Opposition to the court action
Incumbent JFF President Michael Ricketts expressed his opposition to the court action, labeling it as a violation of the JFF Constitution and FIFA Statutes. Ricketts criticized the move, stating that it undermines the legitimate members' right to participate in the election process for the advancement of football in Jamaica.
Vice-president Raymond Anderson, who is challenging Ricketts for the presidency, refrained from commenting on the matter, signaling the complexity and sensitivity of the ongoing dispute within the JFF.
