JCF trains Haitian officers to tackle escalating gang violence

In a significant step toward addressing the escalating wave of gang violence in Haiti, Jamaica’s Police High Command has completed the training of the first batch of Haitian police officers.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, aims to equip their Haitian counterparts with the knowledge and expertise needed to combat the security challenges plaguing the French-speaking nation.

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson highlighted the importance of this collaboration, emphasizing that it presents a unique opportunity to share the knowledge and experience gained by the Jamaican police force over many years of tackling difficult circumstances.

Haiti’s ongoing struggle with gang violence

Haiti has been grappling with the scourge of gang violence for decades, but the situation reached new heights of brutality following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021.

Gangs have since seized control of significant portions of the country, inflicting terror on its residents and causing a devastating loss of life.
