The pledge was made following a meeting between José Ignacio Paliza, Administrative Minister of the Presidency in the Dominican Republic, and Yoshimasa Hayashi, Chief of Staff of the Japanese government. The meeting also marked the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and Japan. Discussions touched on expanding cooperation in trade, culture, and sports, with officials pointing to the Dominican Republic’s potential as a regional hub for Japan.

Highlighting longstanding cultural ties, Paliza referenced the Hiroshima baseball academy in San Pedro de Macorís as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries.
