Jamaica's ODayne Richards secures first medal in NACAC championships

Recent CAC Games champion Odayne Richards opened Jamaica’s medal count at the 3-day NACAC Senior Track and Field Championships in Toronto, Canada, having secured the bronze medal in the men's shot put final on Friday’s opening day.

Richards had a best throw of 20.89 meters to finish just ahead of compatriot Ashinia Miller who threw 20.85 meters for fourth. American Darrel Hill took gold with 21.68 meters.

Meanwhile, St. Lucia’s Levern Spencer won gold in the final of the women’s high jump on Friday.

Spencer cleared 1.91m, a championship record, to win her country’s first medal at the championships.

Elizabeth Patterson of the United States won the silver with her clearance of 1.88m. Her compatriot Loretta Blaut (1.82m) won the bronze.

Spencer is celebrating her second high-jump gold medal in a week as she won the event at the 2018 CAC Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.

She also won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April.
