Jamaica’s minister calls for establishment of CARICOM information ministers forum

Jamaica’s Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Information, Hon. Robert Morgan, is advocating for the establishment of a Caribbean Community (CARICOM) information ministers forum.

In his recent discussions with the Prime Minister of Guyana, Hon. Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Minister Morgan emphasized the necessity of such a forum.

Drawing parallels with the existing CARICOM forum of foreign ministers, which addresses regional foreign policy and community governance, Morgan underscored the potential for information ministers to collaborate on unified policies.

Solidarity and support amidst regional challenges

During the meeting, Minister Morgan reaffirmed Jamaica’s unwavering support for Guyana, particularly regarding its border dispute with Venezuela.

He lauded Guyana’s historical friendship with Jamaica, pledging continued solidarity and assistance.

Prime Minister Phillips reciprocated, highlighting Jamaica’s pivotal role as a staunch ally on the regional and international stage.

Regional cooperation amplified

Prime Minister Phillips echoed Morgan’s sentiments, advocating for broader cooperation among CARICOM information ministers.

Emphasizing the collective strength derived from CARICOM unity, he stressed the need for concerted efforts to amplify the region’s voice globally.

Symbolic gesture of friendship

As a symbolic gesture of friendship and cultural exchange, Minister Morgan presented Prime Minister Phillips with the book ‘Jamaica: Heritage in Pictures.’

This compilation showcases Jamaica’s rich heritage, offering a glimpse into its historic landmarks and significant locales.
