Jamaica’s Briana Williams lowers National Junior Record in 100 meters
FLORIDA, United States -The Jamaican female National Junior Record in the 100m was broken for the second time in under a month on Saturday today when US based Briana Williams clocked a brilliant 11.10 seconds (0.2m/s) to win the event at a meet held at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida.
The time, which is the 15th best of all times and under her previous personal best of 11.13 seconds that was set on the same track in March last year, bettered the 11.11 seconds set by Kiara Grant at the MEAC Outdoors Championships on May 4th in Greensboro, North Carolina, a time that had beaten Veronica Campbell Brown's 11.12 seconds set in 2000 at the IAAF World Juniors Championships in Chile.
Williams, who has held the 200m record (22.50 seconds) since last July when she won the double in Tampere, Finland, got off to her usual bullet start and was well ahead of the field midway the race, winning by a massive margin over training partner Khalifa St Forte of Trinidad and Tobago who was well back in 11.65 seconds with Bahamian Devynne Charlton third in 12.07 seconds.
