Jamaican teacher charged for allegedly smuggling contraband into police lock-up

A Jamaican teacher is among two women charged for allegedly smuggling contraband into the Black River police lock-up on Saturday.

Charged are 52-year-old teacher, Maudlyn Nelson Forrester, of St Mary's district, Munro in St Elizabeth, and 41-year-old shopkeeper, Tracey-Ann Campbell, of Crawltop district in Riversdale, St Catherine.

The women have been charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution. They are scheduled to appear in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

According to police reports, the items delivered by the women in containers included one cellular phone, cigarettes, tobacco, ganja, lighter, and 3-inch concrete nails.

During an operation known as "Crack Down" at the facility, the Black River police reportedly found the items as they searched food containers for inmates.

Coleridge Minto, Acting Superintendent, and Commanding Officer for the parish of St Elizabeth, warns that people should not attempt to take contraband into the lock-ups as they will be prosecuted.
