Jamaican nanny dies in Virginia plane crash

A Jamaican live-in nanny was among the victims in Sunday's tragic Virginia plane crash.

Evadnie Smith, known as  'Nanny V', was killed alongside her employer Adina Azarian, 49, and her two-year-old daughter Aria.

The pilot, Jeff Hefner, who is said to be a skilled aviator with years of experience also died in the crash.

According to reports, Smith, 56, was hired as a live-in nanny at an East Hampton home after Azarian, a well-known luxury broker, had her daughter during the pandemic.  Smith was known for her "generous portions of plantain porridge."

Nanny V traveled frequently with the mother and daughter, serving as a calming counterweight to Azarian's occupation of high-stress deal-making.

Smith died leaving behind one son in Jamaica.

Before the crash, Azarian, her daughter Aria and Smith were in North Carolina to visit Azarian's adoptive parents, the prominent Republican donors John and Barbara Rumpel.

It is reported that the pilot stopped responding to air traffic control instructions minutes after taking off from Tennessee.

According to official reports, the fighter pilots tasked with intercepting the wayward flight said the pilot appeared to be unresponsive and slumped over.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
