A Jamaican man accused of killing a young mother, shooting her boyfriend and leaving their 1-year-old daughter inside a hot car has been convicted on all counts in Florida.

Doujon Griffith, 26, was found guilty Thursday in an Orange County courtroom in Orlando in connection with the September 2021 killings of 20-year-old Massania Malcolm and her daughter, Jordania Reid.

Griffith was convicted on six counts, including first-degree murder with a firearm, first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and three counts of shooting at, within or into a building.

His sentencing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 16.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, Griffith shot Malcolm after first shooting her boyfriend, Jordane “Sinnaway” Reid, who survived the attack.

Investigators said Malcolm’s 1-year-old daughter was left inside a vehicle in an outdoor parking lot on Lake Ellenor Drive in Orlando. The child was found dead alongside her mother’s body two days later. Investigators determined that the child died after being exposed to the extreme heat inside the vehicle.

Griffith and the couple reportedly knew each other before the killings. Investigators said Malcolm and Reid had taken Griffith into their home after he became homeless.

According to investigators, tensions developed after Griffith allegedly failed to contribute to the household and the couple told him he had to leave.

On the morning of Sept. 7, 2021, the couple reportedly drove Griffith to a bus stop. Prosecutors said he shot at them during the trip, striking Reid multiple times and killing Malcolm. Reid was hospitalized for several months after the shooting and later provided investigators with details about the attack.

Griffith subsequently fled Florida and was arrested during a traffic stop in New Jersey on March 26, 2024. Investigators said he had changed his appearance by growing dreadlocks.

He was later extradited to Florida to face charges that included premeditated first-degree murder, first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder.

Griffith and both victims were originally from Glendevon in Montego Bay, St James, and the killings sent shockwaves through the Jamaican community there.

Malcolm’s mother, Latoya “Budeisha” Reid, is also known in Montego Bay’s entertainment and party scene and now lives in the United States.

Local police previously said Griffith had been involved in gang activity in Jamaica and had entered the United States illegally, though those claims were part of the investigation and are separate from the convictions announced Thursday.

The convictions bring the four-year case closer to its conclusion, with Griffith now scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Nov. 16.
