Born in Chapelton, Clarendon, Douglas has been a longstanding local attorney in south Florida, specializing in criminal defense, immigration law and family law. A Commissioner seat would be his first elected public position, though he has served as Chairman of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board, and as an executive member of the local Jamaican-American Bar Association. Contesting for a Commission seat, Douglas will face Yomtov Vivi Assidon, Gerald Brignola, Steven J Del Re, and Steven Brian Feren. Municipal elections for the city will be Held on November 8th this year.
Douglas is one of many Caribbean-American running for public office this year. Four Caribbean-Americans are running for Florida State Representative for District 95, to replace current Rep. Hazelle Rogers, who terms out this year. The candidates include Jamaican-born Lauderdale Lakes mayor Barrington Russell, Haitian-American Patrick Jabouin, Sr., Suriname-American Roxanne Valies and Anika Omphroy of Jamaican and Haitian ancestry.
