Jamaican Government invests in advancing health sector
Jamaican Government Senator Abka Fitz-Henley shed light on the efforts and progress made by the government to enhance service delivery within the healthcare sector.
He was closing the State of the Nation Debate in the Senate on February 2.
Investing billions to elevate healthcare facilities
Senator Fitz-Henley revealed that the government has invested over $14 billion into the Cornwall Regional Hospital, a cornerstone of western Jamaica’s medical care landscape.
Simultaneously, $6 billion has been allocated to expansion projects at multiple healthcare facilities, including the Spanish Town Hospital and the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Expanding access to quality care
Addressing the pressing need for accessible healthcare, Senator Fitz-Henley emphasized the government’s commitment to the development of type-five clinics throughout the nation.
Notable projects he mentioned include the establishment of clinics at Payne Land and the imminent creation of parish number 15, Portmore.
He added that this expansive initiative aims to elevate the comfort and well-being of Jamaica’s citizens by upgrading approximately a dozen clinics nationwide.
He further highlighted the construction of the Western Children Adolescent Hospital in St. James, which is being funded by the governments of Jamaica and the People’s Republic of China.
Compassionate Care programme
The Ministry of Health and Wellness has taken a monumental step with the launch of the Compassionate Care Programme in hospitals across the island.
This program, as outlined by Senator Fitz-Henley, aims to bolster the psychological well-being of patients while crucially reducing waiting times.
