Jamaican cop found guilty of cocaine trafficking

A Jamaican police officer has been found guilty on various counts of drug-related offenses at the Manchester Parish Court this past Thursday. 

Corporal Jermaine Powell is found guilty of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, trafficking cocaine, possession of criminal property, and conspiracy.

Operation unveils drugs

Reports are that on November 9, 2018, a cooperative venture between the Narcotics Division and personnel from the Porus Police Station launched an anti-narcotics operation along the Porus main road. 

A white Toyota Probox motor car driven by Corporal Powell was signaled to stop and he complied.

Hidden contraband unearthed 

An examination of Powell’s vehicle revealed cocaine weighing more than two pounds along with $1.2 million in cash was found concealed between the spare wheel and the body of the vehicle.

At the time of the discovery, the illicit substance bore an estimated street value of J$1.4 million.

Powell is to be sentenced on December 31.
