Jamaican businesses encouraged to invest in security measures

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has issued an advisory to business owners across Jamaica, stressing the urgent need to bolster their security measures.

This proactive initiative stems from a growing concern about the robberies targeting commercial establishments.

Armed guards and surveillance cameras

Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, leading the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit, emphasized the importance of adopting robust security strategies.

Her recommendations primarily focus on the deployment of armed guards and the installation of advanced surveillance camera systems.

She was speaking during a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) ‘Think Tank’ on December 14.

Organized crime networks

SSP Lindsay noted that robberies are no longer isolated incidents perpetrated by individuals but are carefully planned operations executed by organized crime syndicates.

These groups are not only well-coordinated but also heavily armed, elevating the threat level significantly.

A critical time for increased vigilance

With the Christmas season approaching, a period traditionally marked by heightened commercial activity, SSP Lindsay advises businesses to strengthen their defenses.

In addition to physical security measures, SSP Lindsay also highlights the vital role of surveillance technology.

She urges businesses to not only install security cameras but also ensure their operational effectiveness. The presence of functional cameras, strategically positioned, goes beyond mere deterrence; they are critical tools in crime investigation, capable of capturing crucial evidence that can aid in identifying and apprehending perpetrators.
