Jamaica ramps up efforts to secure ports of entry
Ports Security Corps Limited (PSC) is set to continue its critical role in enforcing regulations that safeguard Jamaica’s air and sea ports, aligning its operations with international standards from the International Ship and Port Facility Security and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

As detailed in the Jamaica Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the fiscal year ending March 2025, PSC aims to ensure its operational sustainability and maintain its reputation for delivering high-quality services.
The upcoming fiscal year will see the implementation of several strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering the effectiveness of port security operations.
Enhancing skills and operational policies
Among the key strategies is the re-certification of officers, prioritized to align with ICAO and Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) regulations.
This ensures that all personnel are up-to-date with the latest in security protocol and procedures.
In addition, PSC plans to review and revise its operating policies to enhance overall efficiency, adapting to the evolving demands of port security.
Recruitment and service expansion
To strengthen its workforce, PSC is looking to enhance staffing levels through increased recruitment and comprehensive training of new security officers.
This expansion is not just in numbers; the entity also aims to boost the provision of security services by an average of 10 per cent during the budget year, further enhancing the security measures at Jamaica’s ports.
Financial outlook and staffing projections
With these initiatives in place, PSC anticipates a net surplus of $31.12 million from its activities.
The projected staff complement is expected to reach 918 by the end of the fiscal year, indicating a significant investment in human resources to meet increasing security needs.
