Jamaica draws Caribbean rivals as 2026 World Cup race heats up

The Reggae Boyz are officially on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as Thursday's eagerly anticipated draw for the final round of CONCACAF qualifiers placed Jamaica in Group B alongside regional rivals Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, and Bermuda.

With a World Cup berth at stake, the upcoming clashes promise to be nothing short of thrilling.

The third and final phase of qualification will unfold over six matches—home and away fixtures—during FIFA’s September, October, and November international windows later this year. Each team in Group B will play their opponents twice, and only the group winner will automatically punch a ticket to the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Path to the world stage: One shot, one opportunity

Securing top spot in the group is the ultimate prize. However, finishing second doesn’t spell the end of the journey. The two best second-place finishers from the three final-round groups will qualify for the high-stakes intercontinental playoffs in March 2026, offering a final opportunity to reach the global stage.

CNCACAF’s revamped format means a potential eight teams from the region could feature at the 2026 tournament. This includes the three co-hosts, the three group winners, and two intercontinental playoff contenders.

The full picture: A region divided

The final round comprises 12 teams divided into three groups of four, drawn from predetermined pots in a blind draw that added a layer of suspense. The group configurations are as follows:

  • Group A: Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Suriname
  • Group B: Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, Bermuda
  • Group C: Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti, Nicaragua

Jamaica’s draw places them in a competitive but manageable group. Matches against traditional Caribbean foes Trinidad and Tobago and unpredictable sides like Curacao and Bermuda will require the Boyz to be at their tactical and physical best.

The countdown begins

The stakes could not be higher. For the Reggae Boyz, this is more than just another qualification cycle—it is a shot at redemption, glory, and national pride on the grandest stage in sports.

As the September kickoff approaches, all eyes will be on the Boyz to rise, rally, and reclaim their place among the world’s elite football nations.
