Investigation launched into major fire at hotel in Guyana

Firefighters in Guyana are investigating what contributed to a blaze at the Ramada Princess Hotel on East Bank Demerara on Saturday night.

Reports are that the fire wreaked havoc on a significant portion of the 194-room hotel, starting from the fourth floor in room 431.

GFS' response saves lives

Upon receiving a distress call at approximately 10:47 p.m., the Guyana Fire Services (GFS) responded to the incident.

With 28 firefighters, equipment from two fire stations, three ambulances, and a hydraulic system, they successfully evacuated trapped guests from the sixth floor of the six-story building.

The operation was particularly urgent as the hotel was hosting guests attending the ongoing Cricket Carnival and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
