Reggae Boy Kemar Roofe, who has been dogged by injury, will miss the rest of the Scottish Premiership club Rangers’ season following minor surgery on a hip problem.

The 30-year-old forward will be fit to return for the start of pre-season, the club announced on Friday.

He has made only six appearances for the Rangers this season, scoring twice.

Midfielder Tom Lawrence, 29, who has not featured since August, will also not play again this campaign after an operation on an Achilles problem.

“The decision was taken that, with a short amount of league games left, it is better to get the boys ready for a new campaign,” manager Michael Beale said.

“They will be important players for us, come pre-season, for sure.”

Rangers host Raith Rovers on Sunday in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, as they aim to defend their trophy.

Trailing Celtic by nine points with 10 games left in the Premiership, and having lost the League Cup final to their rivals, the Scottish Cup is Rangers’ best chance of silverware again this season.

In England, a tendon injury has ended Jahmari Clarke’s loan spell at League One bottom club Forest Green Rovers, the Jamaica youth international returning to Reading, his Championship parent club.

“His season is finished,” said Forest Green boss Duncan Ferguson.

The 19-year-old Clarke scored once in three appearances for Forest Green, last season’s League Two champions.
