Historic visitor influx: Jamaica welcomes two million in first five months of 2024

In a remarkable showcase of tourism growth, Jamaica has welcomed over two million visitors in the first five months of 2024.

The Ministry of Tourism has revealed preliminary data, indicating the country hosted 1,265,830 stopover visitors and 745,812 cruise passengers from January through May.

This influx has propelled the tourism sector to earn an impressive US$1.9 billion.

Montego Bay: A summer hotspot

The Ministry of Tourism noted that Jamaica is poised to be a popular destination for American tourists this summer.

The Expedia 2024 Summer Travel Outlook report identifies Montego Bay as a leading international destination sought by U.S. travelers.

Additionally, Google Flights data supports this trend, showing Jamaica as a frequently searched destination among U.S.-based families.

Strategic partnerships enhance tourism appeal

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett attributes this success to effective collaborations between the public and private sectors.

These partnerships have significantly enhanced Jamaica’s tourism offerings, making it a premier destination.

Bartlett expresses pride in achieving this historic milestone of two million visitors, reflecting the confidence that partners and visitors place in Jamaica.

Anticipating further growth

Looking ahead, Minister Bartlett anticipates that the upcoming summer festivals will further boost visitor numbers, continuing the positive trend in Jamaica’s tourism industry.
