Guyana’s Ronsford Beaton faces suspension over illegal bowling action for fourth time

Guyana Harpy Eagles fast bowler Ronsford Beaton has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for a fourth time after his action was deemed to exceed the allowable level of elbow extension.

The 31-year-old's action came under scrutiny during a match against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the West Indies Championship, where he finished with figures of two for 39 from 12 overs.

Following his reported action, video footage along with a written report was submitted to the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Bowling Review Group (BRG) and Loughborough University for analysis. The assessment from Loughborough University concluded that Beaton's deliveries surpassed the permitted level of elbow extension tolerance outlined in playing regulations.

Suspension also extends to all other domestic leagues worldwide

Consequently, CWI confirmed Beaton's suspension from bowling in all West Indies international and regional matches with immediate effect. This suspension also extends to all other domestic leagues worldwide, in accordance with International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations.

Beaton's suspension will remain in place until his action is determined to be legal either by an Opinion Report from Loughborough University or by independent analysis from an accredited ICC testing center, as per CWI regulations for dealing with suspected illegal bowling actions.

This marks the fourth time Beaton has faced a ban from bowling in international cricket due to an illegal action, having been suspended previously in 2018, 2019, and 2023.
