Guyana’s late surge seals bronze in Pan American Hockey Series

Guyana staged a dramatic late comeback to secure the bronze medal at the Pan American Hockey Challenge Series, defeating hosts Bermuda 2-1 at the National Sports Centre in Pembroke, Bermuda on Saturday.

Despite trailing for most of the match after Georgia Harris gave Bermuda an early lead in the opening quarter, Guyana's persistence paid off in the final moments of the contest. The home team defended resolutely, maintaining their 1-0 advantage deep into the second half.

However, Guyana broke through in the fourth quarter. Madison Fernandes leveled the match with a crucial strike, breathing life into the visitors’ efforts. With the momentum firmly in their favor, Abosaide Cadogan found the back of the net late in the game to complete the comeback and secure the bronze medal for her team.

Commendable tournament

It was a hard-fought victory and a commendable tournament for Guyana, who ended their campaign with two wins, two draws, and just one defeat. Alysa Xavier, Guyana's goalkeeper, was recognized for her outstanding performances, taking home the award for Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

The victory not only capped a solid performance by the team but also added another achievement to Guyana’s growing reputation in regional women’s hockey.
