Guyana’s government cracks down on unlicensed gold purchases

Guyana’s government has issued a stern warning to the public, emphasizing the legal ramifications that loom for those engaged in the unlicensed purchase of gold.

The authorities are steadfast, promising prosecution for individuals who overlook the necessity of acquiring the requisite licenses.

Closing gaps in gold trading

A recent assessment unveiled a noteworthy discrepancy in the gold trade, capturing the government’s immediate attention.

The assessment’s findings spotlighted a significant disparity between the actual production of gold and the official declaration and sale of the precious commodity to licensed gold dealers, traders, and the Guyana Gold Board.

Ensuring compliance in the gold market

In response to these findings, relevant governmental agencies have been mobilized and assigned explicit directives. These bodies are entrusted with the critical responsibility of initiating immediate and suitable actions.

Their mission is to safeguard the integrity of gold transactions, ensuring that all mined gold is sold in strict accordance with official regulations and protocols.
