According to Guyana’s 2026 Mid-Year Report, more than 55,000 e-passports were issued between January and June as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s identity and border-management systems.
The government is also working to make passport services more accessible to residents outside Georgetown.
An online passport application and appointment system was launched in June, allowing applicants to begin and manage parts of the passport process online. More than 500 people have used the platform since its launch, according to the report.
Additional passport services are expected to become available through Integrated Government Service Centres before the end of 2026, further reducing the need for residents to travel to Georgetown.
The expansion comes alongside the continued rollout of Guyana’s national electronic identification system as the government moves more identification and public services onto digital platforms.
