Guyana gears up for Constitutional Reform Commission appointment

Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali has revealed plans to establish a Constitutional Reform Commission following the debate surrounding the national budget.

Overcoming challenges for Constitutional Reform

President Ali acknowledged that the national budget last year had already earmarked resources for the establishment of the Constitutional Reform Commission.

However, the ongoing border dispute with Venezuela had posed obstacles to its formation.

Inclusivity through multisector representation

To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to constitutional reform, the commission will comprise 20 members drawn from a diverse array of backgrounds.

These members will be selected from political parties, religious groups, and the private sector, fostering a wide spectrum of perspectives to guide the reform process.
