Grenada’s tourism boom: Visitor arrivals soar in first quarter of 2024

The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) has reported a significant surge in visitor arrivals, solidifying Grenada’s reputation as a preferred Caribbean destination.

The first quarter of 2024 saw an impressive rise, primarily driven by travelers from the United States, who contributed to a remarkable 27.1 per cent increase in stopover visitors.

The total number of U.S. visitors grew from 22,734 in Q1 2023 to 28,889 in Q1 2024.

Noteworthy contributions from the United Kingdom

The United Kingdom also played a crucial role in Grenada’s tourism growth. Visitors from the U.K. increased by 15.4 per cent, rising from 7,780 stopovers in the first quarter of 2023 to 8,982 in the same period of 2024.

Overall visitor arrivals Up by 28.6 per cent

Overall, Grenada’s tourism sector experienced a substantial 28.6 per cent increase in total visitor arrivals, jumping from 45,837 in the first quarter of 2023 to 58,941 in Q1 2024.

This impressive upward trend underscores the island’s growing appeal on the global travel and tourism stage.

March 2024: Record-breaking month

March 2024 proved to be a record-breaking month, with Grenada welcoming 22,185 stopover visitors, a 35.5 per cent increase compared to March 2023.

The island also attracted 53,873 cruise visitors and 2,254 yacht arrivals during the same month, highlighting Grenada's broad appeal across different travel segments.

The U.S. remains a key market

The United States remains Grenada’s largest source market, accounting for 49.6 per cent of all March 2024 overnight arrivals, with 11,008 visitors.

The United Kingdom followed closely, with 2,905 visitors in March, representing 13.1 per cent of total stopovers.

Strategic focus on connectivity and community tourism

The GTA attributes Grenada’s sustained growth to strategic efforts in enhancing flight connectivity and promoting community tourism.

This strategy has been pivotal in attracting visitors from key source markets.

The recent Caribbean Tourism Organization Sustainable Tourism Conference, hosted by Grenada in April 2024, reinforced the island's commitment to fostering growth as a premier travel destination.

Looking forward to Summer 2024

With the highly-anticipated summer travel season approaching, the Grenada Tourism Authority and its stakeholders remain dedicated to ensuring Grenada continues to offer safe, enriching, and unforgettable experiences for travelers worldwide.

The positive momentum in the first quarter sets a strong precedent for further growth throughout the year.
