Grenada’s government launches assessment after heavy rains

In response to the recent heavy rains brought about by a shearline, the Grenada government initiated an assessment to evaluate the extent of the damage.

This natural weather event primarily impacted the northern region of the country, as well as parts of the western and eastern parishes, causing concern among residents and authorities alike.

No reported fatalities, but homes affected

Despite the challenging conditions, authorities reported that there have been no fatalities or injuries directly attributed to the adverse weather conditions.

However, the homes of several families were either displaced or lost due to landslides.

Finance Minister evaluates potential actions

Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall emphasized that the preliminary assessment will play a pivotal role in determining the government’s future course of action.

One possible outcome could be filing a claim with the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility Segregated Portfolio Company, a decision that hinges on the extent of the damage uncovered during the assessment.
