Grammy-nominated superstar Akon is set to dazzle fans in Jamaica with a headline performance at the Sybaritic Weekend event. 

Scheduled for July 28 at the Aqueduct, Rose Hall in Montego Bay, St. James, the event promises to be a highlight of the summer.

A longstanding affection for Jamaican music and culture

Originally from Senegal, Akon moved to the United States during his childhood where he was deeply influenced by hip hop and Jamaican dancehall music. 

His career has been marked by collaborations with notable Jamaican artists such as Stephen Marley, Don Yute, Shabba Ranks, Vybz Kartel, and Beenie Man. 

This connection underscores his deep ties to the Jamaican music scene, which continues to influence his work.

Akon has made a significant mark on the music industry with global hits like “I Wanna Love You,” “Smack That,” “Lonely,” “Locked Up,” and “Don't Matter.” 

His work extends beyond his own music; he has collaborated with a roster of music and hip hop royalty including Michael Jackson, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and others. 

Additionally, his involvement with KonLive, a joint venture with Interscope Records' Jimmy Iovine, highlights his role in nurturing talents like the Jamaican duo Brick and Lace.
