Godfrey Lothian, the former president of the Jamaica table Tennis Association (JTTA) was pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital Tuesday morning after collapsing at home.

Reports are that mid-morning the 65-year-old Lothian complained of feeling unwell after which he was found unconscious in his bedroom.

He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A director of the Jamaica Cricket Association at the time of his passing, Lothian was also president of the Greenwich Town Football Club and for decades led a number of youth and grassroots programmes within the community of Greenwich Town.

Earlier this year Lothian lost the presidency of the JTTA after a bitter feud with current president Andrew Lue, who was taken aback by his sudden passing. Nonetheless, Lue praised Lothian for his service to the sport and expressed his sincere sympathy to his wife and family on behalf of the.

Also paying tribute to the late JTTA boss was Jamaica’s leading men’s table tennis player Simon Tomlinson.

“It’s a sad day and moment for the sport with the sudden passing of Godfrey Lothian because I was caught off guard. I send my sincere condolences to his wife and family on behalf of the clubs and playing members and hope they are holding tight during this sad day,” Tomlinson was quoted by the Jamaican media.

A retired employee of the Institute of Sports, Lothian is survived by wife Joyce, five children, other relatives and friends.
