Florida operates as a closed primary election state, meaning only voters who are registered with a political party may vote for that party's candidates during primary elections.
While voters may register with or change their political party affiliation at any time, those wishing to participate in a party's primary election must do so by the July 20 registration deadline.
State election officials also highlighted several key dates leading up to the primary:
- July 4: Deadline to send vote-by-mail ballots to military and overseas voters covered under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA).
- July 9–16: Deadline to mail vote-by-mail ballots to domestic voters.

- Aug. 6: Deadline to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed.
- Aug. 8–15: Mandatory early voting period, with some counties offering additional early voting days. Voters should check with their local Supervisor of Elections for county-specific schedules.

Election officials are encouraging eligible voters to register before the deadline to ensure they can participate in the upcoming primary.
