Florida officials to remove company responsible for 4 a.m. emergency alert test

The company that is responsible for sending Florida residents emergency alerts on their cellphones will be removed after much of the state woke up to an alarm at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday.
Reports are that officials said the alert, which was a test, was intended to be on TV.
Florida Division of Emergency Management apologized for the incident in a statement to ABC News.
“We are taking the appropriate action to remove the company responsible for submitting the alert this morning. We want to stress that while this wake-up call was unwarranted, disasters can happen at any time, and having a way to receive emergency alerts can save lives,” the division added.
Florida's emergency management shared that it tests emergency alerts across a range of media, including radio, television, and text messages.
In a tweet, the division also said it is taking the appropriate action to ensure that the incident does not reoccur and that only true emergencies are sent as alerts in the middle of the night.
Likewise, Gov. Ron DeSantis said that he would “bring swift accountability” to those responsible.
