Ashley Hosendove was arrested following an investigation into the death of Ja'nova Parks, who suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the torso at a residence at 1452 NW 1 Court in Florida City at about 1:55 a.m. June 10.
According to the Sheriff's Office, uniformed officers with the Florida City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at the residence. When officers arrived, they found the child suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
One of the responding officers transported Parks and her biological mother to Homestead Baptist Hospital. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue later airlifted the child to HCA Florida Kendall Trauma Center, where she died despite medical efforts.
The preliminary investigation found that five people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting: two children and three adults. The other child was Parks' 4-year-old sibling. Hosendove was identified as the children's biological mother.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Homicide Bureau investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators said the scene was limited to the residence and that they were not searching for anyone believed to pose a threat to the community.
Hosendove faces charges of manslaughter of a child under 18 and culpable negligence involving a firearm that was within easy access of a minor.
The investigation remains ongoing.
