PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC – Police are searching for the gunmen who shot and killed one of their colleagues on Sunday.

Police said that Alix Jean René was shot several times as he left a gas station near the Parc Sainte-Thérèse in Juvénat by individuals who later escaped.

René was the second police officer killed in the last four days, but the fifth police officer to be shot since the start of the month.

Earlier, police said that the body of Inspector Dominique Jacques, 44, was found near Pont Brache in the commune of Léogâne

As a result, residents have erected barricades, burning tyres and blocking traffic as they urged the government and law enforcement agencies to do more to secure the country.

Meanwhile, five persons training to become officers were arrested following a joint investigation of the Departmental Service of Judicial Police, (SDPJ) and the Central Directorate of Judicial Police, (DCPJ).

Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, Paul Eronce Villard, said that the SDPJ and the DCPJ are continuing their investigations into the matter.
