Fifteen murders mark start of 2024 in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago has witnessed a distressing start to the new year with 15 killed in just the first week. 

This grim statistic is more than double the country’s murder toll for the corresponding period in 2023.

Reports are that at the same time last year, the murder toll stood at seven.

Weekend bloodshed rocks the capital

Reports are that between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, six murders occurred within Port of Spain and several other areas in Trinidad.

Police Commissioner expresses confidence amidst chaos

Amid this unsettling surge in homicides, Police Commissioner Earla Christopher has emerged as a voice of authority, expressing confidence in the ability of law enforcement to combat crime. 

Despite the grim statistics, Commissioner Christopher remains resolute in restoring peace and order in the country.

A faithful approach to crime prevention

Commissioner Christopher has also drawn attention to her faith as a source of strength in these trying times, publicly declaring her belief that divine intervention can help stem the tide of violence. 

She emphasized the police force’s willingness to collaborate with faith-based organizations, underscoring the importance of a united front against the escalating crime wave.
