The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has announced that as part of its rehabilitation mission and to promote and recognize positive behavior among incarcerated individuals, the annual Christmas celebration will kick off this month at both His Majesty’s Prisons and the Belle Isle Correctional Facility.
Holiday cheer through culinary delights
Starting from December 13, 2023, to January 2, 2024, the program will allow inmates in all facilities to receive snacks and fast-food items from relatives and friends.
This concession is restricted to weekdays, specifically between 9 am to 1 pm. The approved items for this period include a variety of fast-food options like KFC, and Subway, and local favorites such as Roti.
Special days, Special meals
The treat extends to home-cooked meals on three specific days: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
During these days, between 9 am and 3 pm, families can bring home-cooked meals, including cake, accompanied by non-alcoholic beverages like Malt, Coco Cola, and Hairoun soft drinks.
Adherence to rules: A prerequisite for privileges
Not all inmates will automatically be eligible for these privileges.
The program is specifically designed for those who have adhered to prison regulations and exhibited good behavior.
Relatives and friends interested in providing meals are advised to contact the Prison Department in advance to ensure the intended recipients qualify for this initiative.
Security measures
In keeping with security protocols, all meals are subject to standard security checks.
Additionally, meals must be brought in disposable containers.
This requirement underscores the balance between maintaining security within the facilities and offering a semblance of holiday spirit to the inmates.
