Family escapes apartment fire in Fort Lauderdale

A man successfully led his family to safety as flames engulfed their apartment complex in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday morning. 

Reports are that the incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in proximity to Peters Road and South State Road 7, situated on the border between Fort Lauderdale and Plantation.

Rapid response by fire crews

Reports are that fire crews were able to contain the flames so that the fire would not spread, however, the surrounding community remained shrouded in heavy smoke.

Heroic act amidst chaos

Amid the chaos, Mike Larry Shannon narrated his daring rescue mission. 

Woken abruptly by a loud pop and a deafening blast, he reported that he sprang into action to ensure the safety of his family of five. 

Unknown injuries

As of the latest update, there is no information available regarding any injuries resulting from the fire.

Extent of damage

Authorities have reported that two units within the apartment complex are now uninhabitable due to the fire’s devastation. 

The Red Cross, meanwhile, reported that it stands ready to provide assistance to those who have been displaced, pending approval.
