West Indies cricketers Deandra Dottin and Afy Fletcher have been honored for their standout performances in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, earning spots in the prestigious Team of the Tournament.

Although the West Indies’ journey ended in the semi-finals, where they were ousted by eventual champions New Zealand, Dottin and Fletcher's contributions did not go unnoticed. New Zealand went on to claim their first-ever T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa in the final on Sunday.

Dottin, aged 33, returned from retirement just three months before the World Cup and made an immediate impact with her powerful batting. Known for her aggressive style, she topped the tournament’s six-hitting charts, smashing nine maximums. Across five innings, she amassed 120 runs at an average of 40, boasting an impressive strike rate of 162.16. As a bowler, Dottin also played a key role, taking five wickets, including a stellar four-wicket haul for just 22 runs against New Zealand, with an outstanding bowling average of 7.60 and an economy rate of 5.42.

Consistent performances

Meanwhile, 37-year-old leg-spinner Afy Fletcher delivered consistent performances throughout the tournament. She picked up 10 wickets in five matches, maintaining an average of 11.50 and an economy rate of 6.38. Fletcher’s two crucial three-wicket spells, including vital hauls against Scotland and England, cemented her spot in the Team of the Tournament.

Despite South Africa's loss in the final, their captain Laura Wolvaardt was named skipper of the Tournament XI. She is joined by her compatriots Tazmin Brits and spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba. New Zealand, the champions, contributed three players to the side: Amelia Kerr, Rosemary Mair, and Eden Carson.
