Delay in salary increases for government workers in Grenada sparks concern

The President of the Grenada Public Workers Union (GPWU), Brian Grimes, said that several contracted government workers have yet to receive the increase in their salaries after the inking of a new collective agreement back in June.

Collective agreement: The 13 per cent salary increase

“We are heading into a new budget cycle and a significant percentage of the GPWU members have not received their legally binding wage increase (4%) that was signed on 28 June. WHY?? This is of serious concern,” Grimes posted on his personal Facebook page.

Under the terms of the collective agreement, government workers were slated to receive a significant 13 per cent salary increase.

The agreement stipulated a four per cent increase this year and 2024, with an additional five per cent set to materialize in 2025.

The 2023 national budget

The 2023 national budget, which was presented in December 2022, made provision for the expected increase of four per cent.

The 2024 national budget will be presented to Parliament on December 4.
