Cricket West Indies (CWI) has unveiled the schedule for the 2024 West Indies Championship, featuring an expansion in the number of participating teams and matches for the premier four-day competition.

The West Indies Academy, following its success in the Headley-Weekes tournament in 2023, is poised to make its debut in the West Indies First-Class season. Additionally, the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) are returning to the tournament after a hiatus of a few years.

The 2024 West Indies Championship is scheduled to commence in February, with the first three rounds taking place from February 7 to February 24. These matches will be hosted in multiple countries, including St. Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Antigua and Barbuda. The tournament is set to resume in March and conclude in April.

The eight regional teams competing for the prestigious Headley Weekes Trophy over seven rounds are the defending champions, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Barbados Pride, CCC, Jamaica Scorpions, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, West Indies Academy, and Windward Islands Volcanoes.

The 2024 West Indies Championship will feature a significant increase in prize money, with the winning team receiving US$250,000, while the second-placed team will be awarded US$100,000.

Johnny Grave, the CEO of CWI, expressed pleasure in announcing the schedule and welcomed the inclusion of two new teams, highlighting the need for increased resources. He noted that venues for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in June had undergone significant upgrades, and matches would be held across various locations in Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Grave also mentioned that all the matches would be available for live streaming on the Windies Cricket YouTube channel and accompanied by live ball-by-ball scores on the CWI website, making it accessible for fans around the world to follow the competition closely.

As the West Indies Championship prepares to kick off in February, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to witnessing the expansion of the tournament and the heightened competition among the regional teams, with increased prize money adding to the excitement of the event.
