Celebrating Jamaica: CARICOM applauds 61 years of independence

The Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. Carla Barnett has congratulated Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, as the nation celebrated its 61st year of independence from British colonial rule.

In a statement, Dr. Barnett acknowledged Jamaica’s leadership role within the CARICOM community, highlighting its pivotal role in external trade relations.
She also commended Jamaica’s proactive stance in supporting fellow CARICOM member, Haiti, pointing out Jamaica’s initiative to facilitate the first discussions between the CARICOM-appointed Eminent Persons Group and key Haitian representatives.
This action reinforced Jamaica’s dedication to fostering regional peace and security.
Furthermore, Dr. Barnett expressed optimism regarding Jamaica’s future growth and affirmed CARICOM’s dedication to collaborate closely with Jamaica in the mission of unifying the Caribbean Community.
US Secretary of State congratulates Jamaica
US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, joined in offering congratulations to Jamaica.
He emphasized the strengthening ties between the two nations, particularly in addressing regional issues.
The partnership between the US and Jamaica was further showcased through the US-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis (PACC 2030).
Blinken also noted the strong personal bonds between himself and Prime Minister Holness, enriched by the active Jamaican-American community.
