CDB funds food traceability system to boost Guyana’s export potential

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has recently given the green light for a substantial grant of US$280,906 aimed at the implementation of a food traceability system in Guyana.

This pioneering initiative is expected to significantly enhance the export prospects of leafy greens and pineapples from the region.

Paving the way for a robust traceability system

The CDB’s approval of this grant marks the commencement of a transformative pilot project that seeks to establish the groundwork for an encompassing traceability system within the agro-food value chain of Guyana.

Notably, this initiative will not only enhance traceability but also serve as a valuable repository of insights regarding the system’s overall impact. Additionally, it is geared towards identifying and offering solutions to mitigate potential risks.

A strategic partnership with Guyana government

The CDB’s decision to embark on this trailblazing venture alongside the Guyana government underscores the pivotal role of agriculture in propelling economic growth, fostering job creation, and reinforcing food security on both local and regional fronts.
