The championship’s final day, originally slated for Sunday, was accelerated to Saturday due to severe weather predictions. The young Caymanian, just 21 years old, braved the relentless double session, showing remarkable physical and mental fortitude. His journey to victory was marked by a stunning 64 in the third round—the lowest score of the tournament—followed by a steady 72 to seal the title.

Reflecting on his achievement, Hastings said, “It’s still surreal. I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet.”

A historic triumph for the Cayman Islands

With this victory, Justin Hastings joins an elite league, becoming only the second golfer from the Cayman Islands to claim the prestigious LAAC title. His close friend and compatriot, Aaron Jarvis, first achieved the feat in 2022. Hastings’ win secures him coveted invitations to three of golf’s most revered stages: the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National, the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, and the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

In doing so, Hastings makes history as the first Caymanian to compete in the U.S. Open and the second to tee off at both the Masters and The Open, following in Jarvis’ illustrious footsteps.

Hastings’ victory was not just a triumph of skill but also of mental growth and resilience. He acknowledged the challenges he faced and the lessons learned during the high-stakes final rounds.
“Today was a learning experience,” Hastings admitted. “I realized there’s still room for growth in critical moments, but I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, especially with my mental game over the past few years.”

The road ahead

His words reflected the maturity of a young athlete on the rise, poised to take his game to new heights on the global stage.

The spotlight now turns to Hastings as he prepares for his debut on some of golf’s grandest stages. From the hallowed grounds of Augusta to the storied fairways of Oakmont, the Caymanian prodigy is set to represent his country with pride and ambition. His victory not only cements his legacy but also underscores the growing presence of Caribbean talent in the world of golf.
