Carifta Games Day 2 Highlights: Record-breaking wins for Jamaica, Bahamas, and USVI's Michelle Smith

Jamaica extended its reign at the Carifta Games Track and Field Championships in Grenada, showcasing unparalleled dominance on the second day of competition on Sunday.
With a string of record-breaking performances, Jamaican athletes solidified their position atop the medal table, leaving an indelible mark on the prestigious event.
Jamaica extended its lead atop the medals table to be on 49 medals, comprising 24 gold, 15 silver and 10 bronze, well ahead of second placed Bahamas with 25, seven gold, nine silver and nine bronze. The top five is completed by Guyana with five medals, four gold and one bronze; Guadeloupe with two gold and one bronze for three medals, and Trinidad and Tobago next on 15 medals, one gold, six silver and eight bronze.
The Carifta Games witnessed remarkable feats from Jamaica's track and field stars, with several athletes etching their names in history.
Jamaica demonstrated its supremacy
In the highly anticipated 400m hurdles events, Jamaica demonstrated its supremacy with stellar performances across multiple categories. Robert Miller emerged as a standout performer in the Under-17 boys’ 400m hurdles, setting a new championship record with a remarkable time of 52.19 seconds.
Miller's electrifying run not only secured him the gold medal but also left spectators in awe of his exceptional talent and determination.
Meanwhile, Michelle Smith of the US Virgin Islands delivered a commanding performance in the U20 girls’ 400m hurdles, clinching the gold medal with a blistering time of 56.28 seconds. Smith's impressive display of speed and technique propelled her to victory, highlighting her status as a rising star in Caribbean athletics.
Jevontae Smith showcased his prowess in the U17 boys’ shot put, setting a new record with a remarkable throw of 18.80 meters. The previous mark was 17.42m set by Christopher Brown in 2011.
In the relay events, Jamaica continued to assert its dominance on the track, securing victories in three out of the four 4x100m relay races. The U17 girls team showcased their exceptional talent and teamwork, clinching gold with a swift time of 45.36 seconds. Not to be outdone, the U17 boys team delivered a stellar performance, crossing the finish line in 41.30 seconds to claim the top spot on the podium.
A show-stopping performance
The U20 girls relay team also put on a show-stopping performance, clocking a time of 43.63 seconds to secure the gold medal. However, in a closely contested race, the U20 boys team narrowly missed out on the top spot, settling for silver with a time of 40.55 seconds, just behind Trinidad and Tobago.
In the field events, Jamaica's dominance was complemented by the Bahamas' success. Taysha Stubbs of the Bahamas triumphed in the Under-20 girls’ javelin event with a throw of 50.94m, while Kimeka Smith of Jamaica emerged victorious in the Under-20 girls’ shot put, recording a distance of 13.68m.
The climax of the morning session saw Jamaica's Rickoy Hunter steal the spotlight in the Under-20 boys’ long jump final. Despite trailing behind for much of the competition, Hunter delivered a breathtaking performance in the final moments, soaring to a distance of 7.48m and snatching the gold medal in dramatic fashion.
Day Two of the Carifta Games showcased the remarkable talent and determination of athletes from Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the US Virgin Islands.
