Caricom Summit postponed amid passage of Hurricane Beryl
Leaders of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) have postponed their annual summit, originally scheduled for July 3 to 5 in Grenada, in response to the imminent threat posed by Hurricane Beryl.
The new dates for the summit will be announced later, as the region prepares for the hurricane’s impact.
Hurricane Beryl’s escalation prompts regional caution
Hurricane Beryl, which intensified to a Category 4 storm overnight, is projected to affect several Caribbean nations.
Its path is expected to pass south of Barbados, then through St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and eventually near Haiti, Jamaica, and Belize by week’s end.
This escalation has led to preemptive changes in airline schedules, signaling widespread disruption due to the severe weather forecast.
Regional preparedness takes priority
In light of the hurricane, Caricom member states are focusing on emergency preparedness and safeguarding their populations.
The primary concern across the community is to ensure the safety and security of all residents as they brace for Beryl’s impact.
