CARICOM and UN Chiefs discuss regional priorities

CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres engaged in an in-depth discussion on regional priorities.

The issues include reform of the international financial architecture, climate change, and the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States.

Haiti’s current situation: CARICOM’s role

According to a statement that was issued following Saturday's discussion, the situation in Haiti is also a pressing concern, as both Secretaries-General recognized CARICOM’s active engagement, particularly the contributions of the Eminent Persons Group

The collective effort of CARICOM in addressing Haiti’s challenges was lauded, emphasizing the regional body’s proactive stance on the matter.

Highlighting the UN’s commitment to the Caribbean, Secretary-General Guterres has actively engaged with several CARICOM leaders. 

Notable meetings have been held with Haiti’s Prime Minister Dr. Ariel Henry, Guyana's President Dr. Irfaan Ali, and Jamaica's Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith.
