Candidate for Attorney General blasts Pam Bondi for delay in suing ‘Big Pharma’

Ryan Torrens, Democratic candidate for Florida Attorney General, blasted Attorney General Pam Bondi for her delay in holding the big pharmaceutical companies accountable for misleading marketing and advertising of addictive opioid prescription painkillers.

“These big pharmaceutical executives are the real drug pushers. They should not only be sued but also criminally investigated for their illegal scheme to get Floridians hooked on these drugs. They knew these opioid painkillers are highly addictive and they lied about it, all to maximize their profits at our expense,” said Torrens.

“Mike DeWine, the Republican Attorney General of Ohio, filed suit against the big pharmaceutical companies for their illegal practices almost a year ago. Pam Bondi says she’s still looking for counsel, even though numerous Florida cities and counties have already lawyered up and filed suit,” said Torrens.

“This is just another example of why we so desperately need a change in direction in our attorney general’s office. For too long, we have followed a double-standard: everyday people are held accountable but big executives and corporate donors get off because they can buy off politicians. It’s time we finally enforce one set of rules in this state,” said Torrens.

Torrens has been campaigning across the State of Florida while fighting for his clients as a consumer protection lawyer.

He says he is running to put the Attorney General’s office back on the side of our consumers again.
