The British Virgin Islands is grappling with the shocking murder of prominent attorney Jamal S. Smith, prompting a vehement reiteration of anti-violence sentiment from Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley.

In the wake of Smith’s tragic demise, Premier Wheatley has extended his condolences, aligning his grief with that of the Virgin Islanders.

Amidst the mourning, Wheatley has made a passionate plea for cooperation with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), encouraging the public to contribute any information that might lead to solving the crime, assuring anonymity for tipsters.

This collective effort aims to reclaim the tranquility that characterizes the Virgin Islands.

Remembering Jamal S. Smith

Smith’s sudden death is not just a personal loss to his loved ones but marks the removal of a pivotal figure in the British Virgin Islands’ legal and corporate sectors.

As the founder of Thornton Smith, his contributions to corporate law and intellectual property rights have garnered widespread respect and admiration.

The void left by his passing is deeply felt across the community, underscoring the profound impact of his professional and personal endeavors.

An unwavering commitment to justice

The government’s resolve to address this heinous crime has been strongly articulated by Premier Wheatley, who has pledged full support to the RVIPF in their investigative efforts. This commitment extends to ensuring the availability of necessary resources to expedite the resolution of this case and others, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to upholding law and order in the British Overseas Territory.

The Circumstances Surrounding the Tragedy

Smith,46, was found dead at his home in Manuel Hill, Tortola on Monday.

RVIPF said it received a report via the 911 call center at 7:30 pm about a shooting at Manuel Reef.

Investigations by officers led them to a residence in the Manuel Hill area.

After a thorough search of the premises, officers discovered Smith’s body with apparent gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
