BVI: Captain Auguste George Airport resumed accepting for international flights

The Captain Auguste George Airport on Anegada, British Virgin Islands, has reopened its gates to international flights, marking a pivotal moment in the island’s aviation history.

On March 23, the first international arrivals touched down at the Captain Auguste George Airport. Among them were flights operated by Fly BVI and Island Birds, originating from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

Government’s commitment to economic revitalization

Minister for Communications and Works, Kye Rymer, hailed the resumption of international flights as a testament to the government’s unwavering dedication to bolstering the local economy while upholding stringent aviation safety standards.

Expanding air connectivity

In a statement, Minister Rymer emphasized that reintroducing international flights not only serves to expand air connectivity but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth in the Virgin Islands.

Minister Rymer underscored the significance of this milestone, highlighting its role in enhancing connectivity and accessibility for visitors to the region.

Strategic promotion of Anegada’s charms

Rymer articulated the strategic significance of including Anegada in the international flight network, emphasizing the island’s natural beauty and warm hospitality as key attractions for visitors.

Granting access to international aircraft from major hubs like San Juan, St. Thomas, and St. Martin, Rymer noted, opens new avenues for local businesses on Anegada to flourish.

Paving the way for economic growth

With international flights once again gracing Anegada’s skies, the government anticipates a positive ripple effect on the local economy, paving the way for sustainable growth and development.
