Bust in Miami-Dade: Authorities tackle massive retail theft ring
Miami-Dade authorities have apprehended numerous suspects linked to a prolific theft ring, unraveling a criminal network responsible for causing over $20 million in losses this year.
According to reports, a 9-month investigation, dubbed “Rico,” was initiated in January, focusing on “boosters”—who steal retail items with the primary aim of reselling them.
A wide network of “boosters” identified
According to reports, the extensive investigation led to the identification of over 87 serial “boosters.”
This discovery led authorities to find suspects who had amassed millions through their illicit activities.
Reports are that the criminal organization was operating throughout several counties within South Florida, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
Collaborative law enforcement effort
The investigation saw the involvement of multiple local and state agencies, with Homeland Security Investigations also playing a crucial role.
A bevy of retail victims
Police reports are that some of the retail victims allegedly targeted by the group were Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie, Fresco Y Mas, Navarro, Home Depot, Lowes, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, Sam Ash, Best Buy, Harbor Freight, The Fiddle Shop, Guitar Center, Golf Galaxy, Macy’s, BJ’s, Costco, various pool supply stores and some small music businesses.
