The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) says it remains committed to protecting Broward County's most vital facilities, including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades and the county's courthouse system.

In a message released in July, Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony emphasized that the agency's mission extends beyond individual neighborhoods and municipalities, focusing on infrastructure that millions of residents, visitors and businesses depend on daily.

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, BSO personnel provide round-the-clock security for one of the nation's busiest airports, which serves more than 37 million passengers annually. The sheriff's office said five specialized units—the Criminal Investigations Unit, Airport Community Team, Traffic Unit, Explosive Detection Canine Unit and Incident Containment Team—work together to respond to threats, investigate criminal activity and ensure the safe movement of travelers.

BSO also plays a key role at Port Everglades, one of the world's busiest seaports and a major center for international trade, energy distribution and the cruise industry. Deputies conduct high-visibility maritime patrols, respond to emergencies and oversee the Port Security Operations Center and Port Identification Office. The agency issues and monitors more than 8,000 port credentials each year while supporting the movement of more than four million cruise passengers.

The sheriff's office also oversees security operations across Broward County's court system, including the Central Courthouse and three regional courthouses. Court Services personnel are responsible for maintaining safety for employees and visitors, transporting inmates, protecting court personnel and ensuring orderly judicial proceedings.

According to BSO, personnel assigned to these facilities undergo specialized training, including full-scale active assailant exercises, threat response drills and other emergency preparedness activities tailored to each location's unique needs.

The agency also deploys members of its Threat Intervention Tactics Analytics Network (TITAN) to critical infrastructure sites. The team provides rapid operational support during emergencies and maintains a visible tactical presence in areas identified as vulnerable.

"The airport, seaport and courthouses are not simply buildings or facilities; they are essential components of Broward County's transportation, economy and government operations network," Tony said. "From protecting vital transportation hubs to supporting the administration of justice, we are committed to delivering exceptional service while focusing on safeguarding all of Broward County."
