More than 300 vote-by-mail ballots have been mailed to military personnel and overseas citizens eligible to vote in Broward County's Aug. 18 primary election under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA).
The Broward Supervisor of Elections Office said the ballots were sent on July 1, allowing eligible voters serving in the military or living abroad to participate in the primary election.
Eligible UOCAVA voters include members of the U.S. armed forces — including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service and Merchant Marine — along with their eligible family members, members of the National Guard and organized Reserve, and U.S. citizens residing outside the United States.
In addition to registering to vote, UOCAVA voters may request a vote-by-mail ballot by submitting a Federal Post Card Application.
Election officials reminded military and overseas voters that completed vote-by-mail ballots may be returned by mail or fax directly to the Supervisor of Elections Office. Ballots cannot be returned by email.
The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation for the primary election is July 20.
Early voting will take place from Aug. 8 through Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Election Day is Tuesday, Aug. 18.
